I love the message this sends, a message you can't get anywhere but books

Lux Series: Onyx

I just finished the second book in the Lux series, and I absolutely loved it.  Its unconventional romance, no love at first sight, but a lot of hatred that slowly shapes into a friendship and maybe more.  I love the relationship between Katy and Daemon, its not your ordinary romance, Jennifer L. Armentrout has done it again.  I am a huge fan of both the Covenant and Lux series now.  I suggest reading it if your looking for a original paranormal romance book, one that hasn't been done before a thousand times.  I mean, aliens, who would have thought of them being that sexy! I can not give my full review of the series, but so far 9 out of 10.

What is coming up

Tomorrow I will be posting the "Weekly Book Quiz" for the first time.  This is a competition to see who knows the most about YA books off the top of their head.  Read and answer all of the questions as a comment and on Saturday of that week I will post the answers and the top 3 winners.  The winners are the first three people to answer the questions correctly, and their names will be listed in the soon to be created winners page.  Thanks and good luck, look out for the quiz tomorrow!

The Percy Jackson Series and The Heroes of Olympus Series

I started to read this series in 6th grade (4 years ago) and I am so happy I did.  The Percy Jackson series has just the right amount of humor and adventure that makes it a wonderful series.  I followed Percy through his battle against Cronus and his fate, and when the series end, well to say the least I was sad.  Then the next series came out, the Heroes of Olympus, and I fell in love once again.  New characters and old characters uniting to destroy another evil villain, with more humor, adventure, and now more love interests.  The Heroes of Olympus series is still unfinished, and I am waiting on baited breath for the fourth one to come out.  10 out of 10 for this series, it is less of a girly series than some of the others I have reviewed lately, so everyone can and should read it.

Suggestions?

Hi there!  If anyone viewing this blog has any suggestions on books I should read and review or suggestions to making this blog better, feel free to comment!

Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin

Ok, so usually I don't read 944 page books about history (yes, you read it right, 944 pages, but only like 730 of them are actually the book, the rest are notes and pictures), but my history teacher gave us the assignment to read it instead of the textbook (ug, worst textbook ever= American Pageant)  to learn about Lincoln and the Civil War.  This book follows Lincoln, starting at the Republican Convention where Lincoln is nominated for the Presidential Race in 1860, then goes back and describes not only his life before the election, but also his three rivals for the Republican Ticket, Salmon Chase, William Seward, and Edward Bates.  Each man very different, and very jealous when Lincoln gets the Republican Ticket.  And Lincoln, once elected, does an impossible thing, he pulls his old rivals in and creates his cabinet with these men, with a few others as well.  Seward is made his Secretary of State, Chase the Secretary of Treasury, and Bates the Secretary of the Interior.  Lincoln pulls Republicans, Democrats, and old Whigs into his cabinet at a time when the country is being torn apart.  Thrown into a great civil war, Lincoln must work with his old rivals as a team to save the Union.  And soon, many of them learn to respect his political genius, and find he is not the "long armed ape" they believed him to be.  This book shows the pure genius of Abraham Lincoln who is able to deal with bickering cabinet members, hateful generals, and a bloody and disastrous war that spelled death from the start.  You meet new characters from history you have never heard of before, but instantly learn to love and respect, like Kate Chase and Edwin Stanton.  You laugh at Lincoln's jokes and stories, and the last thing you want to happen is for it to end so tragically.  The best thing about the book is it is all true, Goodwin did an amazing job.  And a book I groaned about and thought I would hate has become one of my favorites, 10 out of 10, even an 11 out of 10.  Goodwin made history come alive and I learned so much about not only Lincoln, but about being a good person and leader.  I highly suggest that everyone should read Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln.  And don't give up on it, the beginning is a little dry, but it just gets better and better until you can't get enough.  I am truly thankful that my teacher had us read this and that I didn't just phone it in when reading it.  I suggest all history teachers teach Team of Rivals and everyone should read it.

Archers of Avalon Series

I absolutely love this series, especially the last one.  I original thought I wouldn't like it, but I tried it and it was amazing, guess it proves the "don't knock it till you try it" theory.  The writing style is pretty good and the characters are great and detailed, they seem alive to me.  The last book was by far my favorite out of all of them, but the first and second are amazing as well.  Tristan is the classic tortured soul character with a twist, a funny attitude and a deep love for a girl who's heart he is cursed to break again and again, literally.  Gabriel is forced to love only one girl for eternity, Scarlet has no memory of anything before she randomly showed up in the woods, Heather is a classic blonde with a love for clothes, and Nate is a funny guy with a broken heart.  I love the storyline of these books too, the first book's ending had me dying for me.  I highly suggest reading this series!  10 out of 10 no doubt.
